FRP is made of synthetic resin as the matrix and glass fiber as the reinforcing material. It has similar strength to steel, superior performance of water resistance and corrosion resistance, and has a smooth surface like a mirror's beautiful appearance, and can be formed as a whole; but it also has some shortcomings, such as small rigidity and poor wear resistance. Compared with steel and wooden ships, FRP ships have the characteristics of less maintenance, which is determined by the superior performance of FRP itself. However, FRP, like all materials, also has aging problems, but the aging process is relatively slow. Therefore, FRP less maintenance is not without maintenance, proper maintenance can not only maintain a beautiful appearance, but also extend the life of FRP boats.

FRP ship FRP speedboat common problems and solutions;

Common FRP problems include: cracking of the rubber shell at the structural joint, water leakage and seepage at the joint/opening, foaming of the rubber shell or black spots on the deck surface of the FRP hull, bubbling and cracking of the anti-skid plate on the deck, leakage of the bottom of the ship, scratches and cracks caused by collision during use. As well as the glass fiber reinforced plastic surface shell color change, produce color difference. The reason may be the negligence of manufacturing, or the abnormal condition of FRP caused by improper use.

Causes of problems and treatment methods;

Problems often occur in the glass steel surface, the reasons and different treatment methods are described as follows:

1. Color change, blistering and black spots on the surface of the rubber shell:

Due to the instability of the ratio of curing agent used in climate change at different times during local repair and construction, or the color difference of different batches of rubber shells will cause color change (color difference and yellowing) of external rubber shells in the future, especially on dark rubber shells.

Failure to completely eliminate tiny bubbles and dust particles during lamination will cause blistering and black spots on the external rubber shell in the future.

Processing method:

A. color difference; Grind off the surface glue shell layer, reapply the same type of glue shell, water grind to #1000 or above sandpaper, then polish and wax. Production and repair should be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations to control the amount of curing agent.

B. Blisters/black spots; chisel off the rubber shell layer at the blisters/black spots, reapply the same type of rubber shell, water grind to #1000 or above sandpaper, then polish and wax.

C if there are deep bubbles or black spots; To dig to the end, fill up the recessed part with broken felt and laminated resin. After curing, reapply the same type of rubber shell, grind to #1000 or above sandpaper, polish and wax.

2. Cracking at the junction between the hull and the deck of the FRP speedboat:

Most of the use of accidental collision will occur in the side (hull and deck) of the joint cracking.

Processing method:

A. local small collision; Remove the side fender strip to repair the glass fiber reinforced plastic, and use structural adhesive and bolts to fix it again before reinforcement/repair is completed.

B. larger area of the collision; please find the dealer to arrange professional repair.

3. Crack of rubber shell on the surface of the hull, deck, flying bridge and joint of FRP parts of FRP speedboat:

Most of them occur at the junction between the stairs, Wet Bar and other single-piece FRP fittings and the deck body. Due to the combination of two FRP parts, the concave and convex corner parts are easy to crack at the surface rubber shell due to long-term use.

Processing method:

Remove the excessively thick surface rubber shell layer, use felt cloth to add a layer of resin for reinforcement, recoat the same type of rubber shell after curing, water grind to #1000 or above sandpaper, then polish and wax.

According to customer requirements for splicing, combination, the upper floor can be laid, anti-corrosion wood and so on.
